Hi, I'm Claire. I've always had a bit of an on-again, off-again relationship with the world of sports (okay, mostly off if I'm being honest). But after a decade of trying to snag a spot in the London Marathon, I finally made it - thanks to a charity entry! It was a tough journey to say the least with lots of bumps, bruises and setbacks (I guess you could say I can be a little clumsy sometimes). It turned into one of the best days of my life and now I'm officially hooked on all things running, fitness, gym and sports.
My first marathon? 6 hours and 32 minutes - but who's counting? My ONLY goal was to finish, and I DID! But now I'm aiming for the ultimate goal: Complete all 6 World Major Marathons by the time I'm 40! With Boston's 3 and a half hour cut off, what's a 3 hour time shave, right?!
I created Sole and Steady for everyone! People who don't need to be the fastest or have the most medals, but those who love running or exercise because it feels good (well, most of the time anyway)! I hope you enjoy reading my stories and I hope I can give some inspiration, motivation and maybe a chuckle here and there..
Join me for my next adventure... From Broken Neck to 6 World Major Marathons! (I told you I was clumsy...)
Gymnastics will always be my true love when it comes to sports! I started at a very young age and got quite good (if I do say so myself). But then an elite gymnast at our gym got seriously injured and I never went back. That is until multiple different comebacks in adult life. In school, at uni, and in multiple adult classes. However, my last attempt at a gymnastics career ended in a broken neck!
I used to dread PE lessons at school. I was always the put with the super sporty, popular crowd. Those that know me know that's the total opposite of me! I'd always be on the sidelines, but with Netball, I was actually somewhat useful and included. I was tiny and fast (the total opposite to now) and I actually enjoyed it. I joined the Netball team & loved going to competitions & games.
Badminton was always something we played when I went on UK holidays with my grandparents! And it's something I very occasionally do now with my partner. A great way to get some exercise while having fun and a perfect excuse to get some of that built up frustration from the week out. Poor shuttlecock.
If you'd have told the younger version of me that I'd actually enjoy running, fitness, gym and sports... well she'd be shocked! I used to hate all things that involved running. In fact I used to hate it so much, there may have been a few PE and cross country lessons I errr..missed? I even begged and pleaded with my teachers to take me out of the Sports Leadership Award.
